Nervous Around People? Join the Social Anxiety Treatment Group

If you are bothered by anxious feelings when you are the center of attention, meeting new people, speaking in front of people, or other social interactions, you may benefit from a social anxiety treatment group.  This method has been shown by the latest scientific research to be effective in developing skills to better cope with your anxiety.

You will learn to challenge the ways you think about being negatively evaluated, implement relaxation techniques, and learn to more comfortably enter into social situations.

This 12-session group is held for 12 consecutive weeks (skipping the week of spring break) at the George Mason University Center for Psychological Services near the Fairfax campus. Each 1.5 to 2 hour session has a fee of $5 which can be paid weekly. This group is scheduled to begin February 11 at 7:00 pm.

For more information or to register, contact the Mason Center for Psychological Services (http://psyclinic.gmu.edu/) at 993-1370 before February 4 (availability is limited). The clinic is located at 10340 Democracy Lane, Suite 202 in Fairfax, VA.

Interested participants will be screened to ensure that treatment is appropriate for them. You must be 18 or older to participate.

New Phishing Attack Warning

Another phishing attack has just circulated through the Mason community with the subject line: Urgent Alert For Your Email Account.

Attempting to collect Mason usernames, passwords, phone numbers and dates of birth under the disguise of a Digital TFX virus alert, this fake Gmu.Edu Technical Team notice used a scare tactic to pressure recipients to respond.

It is Mason’s policy to never request personal, financial or sensitive information through email, and any such request should be viewed as a warning sign for fraud. Do not reply or click on any links in such emails…simply delete them.

Phishing attacks routinely target only a small number (200 or less) of the Mason population, bypassing the strong anti-phishing firewall and security shield measures in place (Mason blocks over 99% of the malicious email traffic received).

Remember...staying safe and secure is as easy as 1 2 3:

(1) Always question unsolicited emails;
(2) Never provide personal/financial/sensitive information in response to an email; and
(3) Refrain from clicking on embedded links in emails.

Questions about the legitimacy of such electronic communication from Mason should be directed to the ITU Support Center at 993-8870.

Help Mason Fight Back The Phishing Attack.

Call For Submissions, Reve(a)ling: Feminist Art

Feminist art is art with a message, not simply art by women.  It is art that talks about crucial issues where the subject matter can be as important as the medium.  Because gender affects every aspect of human experience, feminist art deals with but is not limited to issues such as the human body, race, class, sexuality, capitalism, globalization, politics, power and domination, and beauty.

Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff whose artistic vision is feminist in nature are invited to submit artworks for a juried exhibition to be held in Gallery 123 in the Johnson Center from March 2 - March 19.  The exhibition is a part of Women’s History Month, sponsored by Women and Gender Studies.

Entries must be received by 4:30 pm on Friday, February 19 in the Women and Gender Studies Center, Johnson Center, Room 240K.

Email Susan Miller for a submission for, or pick one up in the Women and Gender Studies Center, Johnson Center, Room 240K, or go to http://wmst.gmu.edu/events/304.
