Call for Departmental Technology Coordinators

The Information Technology Unit (ITU) is refreshing its university-wide Technology Coordinator Group, whose purpose is to work closely with ITU on major technology initiatives, as well as coordinate with ITU on departmental technology matters. The Technology Coordinator Group serves as a forum for the coordinators and ITU to communicate technology ideas, issues, concerns, and to learn from each other.

ITU is asking that each department appoint an individual to the Technology Coordinator Group. To learn more about the benefits and responsibilities of being a Technology Coordinator, visit: http://itservices.gmu.edu/news/news-item.cfm?customel_dataPageID_9008=19546

To sign up, have your Technology Coordinator’s fill out this quick survey by April 30: http://websurvey.gmu.edu/survey/entry.jsp?id=1362452634371. We also encourage current technology coordinators to fill out this survey to provide feedback to help us improve the group.

If you have questions, contact Kate Orf at 993-9857 or korf@gmu.edu.

Quarterly Sprinkler System Inspections, Fairfax Campus

The Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) will conduct quarterly sprinkler system inspections at the Fairfax Campus between April 15 and April 26. Inspections will occur between 6:00 am and 2:00 pm Inspections should not interfere with daily buildings operations and will not require an evacuation of the building. Every effort will be made to follow the schedule however issues may necessitate a modified schedule. To access the schedule, click here.

During the inspection, EHS staff and contractors from Simplex Grinnell will be working throughout the building testing equipment related to the fire suppression sprinkler systems.

You will only be required to evacuate the building if the general building fire alarm is activated or you are advised to do so by a representative from EHS. This inspection is mandated by the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, and we appreciate your cooperation in this process. If you have any questions contact EHS at 993-8448.

University Information Celebrates National Student Employment Week April 7-13

Each year colleges and universities nationwide recognize the importance of the work experience for students during National Student Employment Week (NSEW). Have you experienced a University Information student employee providing awesome customer service? If so, honor them during NSEW 2013.

If you've observed student employees displaying kindness, quality customer service or demonstrating Mason spirit at the Arlington, Fairfax, or Prince William Information Desks, the 2 Kiosks, or University Switchboard, share your words of appreciation by completing the brief survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/UI-NSEW2013.

Recognizing students for their hard work and contributions to Mason encourages their development and we want to know about it. You can also go to our online feedback form at: http://info.gmu.edu/feedback.html.

Contact Tremayne Robertson at trober11@gmu.edu or 993-5473 with any questions or comments.
