| In the event of an emergency on any campus – call 911 for help. The call can be made from any land line, pay phone or cell phone. Deciding what is an emergency is a somewhat subjective process. Certain events such as a fire, an armed intruder, or an unconscious person all justify a call to 911. A skinned knee, a lost wallet, or cars that won’t start don’t justify a 911 call. However, if there is any doubt – make the call. A 911 call to report an emergency from any of the Mason campus will produce one of the following responses: (1) If the call is placed from a University telephone (993 exchange) it will go directly to the Mason Police Dispatcher at the Fairfax campus. The dispatcher is in radio contact with Mason officers at all campuses except Loudoun. Since there is no Mason Police presence at the Loudoun Campus the call will be immediately referred to the Loudoun Emergency Response Center; (2) if the call is placed from a cell phone it will go to the public safety dispatch center in the jurisdiction from where the call is placed. The call will be immediately transferred to the Mason police if it originates on the Arlington, Prince William or Fairfax campuses. Cell phone calls made from the Loudoun Campus will be handled by local emergency responders and the Mason Police will be notified of the emergency. In all cases, it is important for you to be prepared to give the following information: the nature of the emergency (crime, injury, fire, etc); the exact location of the emergency, your name and a call back phone number in case further information is needed. For additional information contact the Safety Office at 993-2479 or the Police Department at 993-2810. | ||
