Parking Services Office Closed June 30

The Parking Services office will be closed on June 30, to complete the transition from Colonial Parking to Standard Parking. The office will reopen at 8:30 am on July 1. Any questions, contact Ann Moran in University Services 993-8868 or amoran1@gmu.edu.

 

Colonial Pipeline Maintenance Project

Colonial Pipeline will perform maintenance work on its facilities on Braddock Road near the intersection with Sideburn Road. The work requires the right-hand, east bound lane of Braddock Road to be closed for approximately one week beginning June 25.

 

HR/Payroll News

Calls for Nominations for Three Awards. Calling all super stars. It's nomination time. HR is currently accepting nominations for the Outstanding Achievement Award, Exceptional Support Award, and the Martha Reiner Customer Service Award. Nominations are due in Human Resources/Payroll by July 15.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is granted for achievements that result in significant benefit to the University, school, institute or department, i.e. specific accomplishments that improve processes, save time or money or improve customer service.

The Exceptional Support Award is designed to recognize those employees who are the worker bees of the University, i.e. those upon whom departments rely for the smooth running of daily departmental functions and operations.

The Martha Reiner Customer Service Award is presented to individuals who have contributed to the enhancement of quality customer service at George Mason University. The criteria for this award are exceptional initiative in going the extra mile to provide service to internal and external customers with timely and appropriate follow-up, responsiveness to the needs of students and customers and demonstrated improvement of customer service and satisfaction.

12-Month and Admin/Professional Faculty Leave Awards. Effective June 25 and visible on the July 1 paycheck, 12-month and Admin/Professional Faculty will roll up to 96 hours of annual leave and up to 960 hours of sick leave. They will also be awarded 192 hours of annual leave and up to 160 hours of sick leave, although these hours will not be visible in Employee Self Service until the July 16 paycheck. All these hours (both rolled and awarded) may be drawn upon during the current pay period, June 25 to July 9.

Independence Day Holiday. Just a reminder that the University will be closed Monday, July 4, in celebration of Independence Day. Tuesday, July 5, is a regular work day.

 

The Summer's Heating Up at the Aquatic & Fitness Center - Fairfax

The Aquatic & Fitness Center is offering several activities for you and your family. One remaining session of swim lessons will be offered in July. Make sure you are signed up by July 10 for our last summer session before fall. We offer classes for people of all ages and skill levels. This session will fill up quickly, so make sure you sign up soon.

Authentic Yoga, Aerobics, and a variety of Martial Arts classes are still being offered through the end of July. Join a class and step up your workouts for the summer.

Do you know a college student who is back for the summer and wants to work out? We are offering a Non-Mason College Break Pass for those college students who want a place to work out while they are home for the summer break and winter holidays. The cost is $125. To register, bring a valid college ID to the Customer Service Desk.

Thought about joining the Aquatic & Fitness Center? Curious what the cost is for a Mason employee and your family? Well here is the scoop... Annual Memberships - Mason faculty and staff with an ID $175; additional adult family members, $150; and youth family members (ages 3 - 15), $55. That is less than $15/ month, so why not get your workout started now? Payroll deduction available.

George Mason to Receive $1.5 Million Gift

Joseph "Sunny" Mathy and his wife, Liliana, are donating their residence in Fairfax and its contiguous ten acres to George Mason. The deferred gift, valued at more than $1.5 million, is in memory of Mathy's late wife, Sally. HIV/AIDS in Africa, the Case of Kenya

The Summer Institute in International Development, the Center for Global Education, presents guest speaker, Pauline Ginsberg, professor of psychology at Utica College speaking on Social, Cultural and Developmental Factors in the Transmission and Prevention of HIV/AIDS in Kenya. The talk will be held June 29 at 2:00 pm at the Arlington Campus, Original Building, Room 256.

eVA Training

eVA, Virginia's electronic purchasing system, has been implemented at George Mason University. Individuals who purchase goods and services for their departments using the American Express Purchase card or the Limited Purchase Order (LPO) form are encouraged to attend an eVA training session. A state-issued eVA user name and password are required to purchase goods and services through eVA. The eVA request form available on the Fiscal Services web site may be used to request an eVA user name and password.

eVA training sessions are scheduled for Tuesday June 28, Wednesday, July 13 and Thursday August 4 from 9:30 am to noon in Innovation Hall. Those interested may register at: http://ittraining.gmu.edu.
