| A Reminder from the Safety Office Power outages are, unfortunately, a fact of life this time of year. The Safety Office reminds you of the procedures you should be familiar with if the power goes out in your building. 1. Call the Physical Plant Customer Service Center at 993-2525. Operators will take your report and provide as much information as possible. 2. If in an elevator, activate the elevator car phone. It will connect you directly to the Customer Service Center. Tell the operator the building name and car number, if possible. Be prepared to alert the operator to any sick or injured passengers who may be in the car. In any case, assistance will be immediately dispatched. 3. If you are in a building and need immediate assistance, call 911. A University Police Department officer will be dispatched to your location as soon as possible. 4. In the unlikely event that telephone service is interrupted due to a power outage and you need immediate assistance, call 911 from a cell phone. You will be connected to the emergency service dispatcher in the jurisdiction from which you are calling. | ||
| Faculty/staff parking permit applications are in the mail. Special parking permit applications (Mason Pond Parking Deck, Sandy Creek Parking Deck, and Surface Reserved) will not be mailed. These applications can be found on the Parking Services website under permits or at the Parking Services office, SUB II, Room 1014. | ||
| Did you know that every day Americans throw away 44 million newspapers. That's equivalent to dumping 500,000 trees into the landfills each week. Please recycle. For questions or information, call Mason Recycling and Waste Management at 993-2547 or email rlim2@gmu.edu. | ||
| Did you know that the U.S. Department of State’s web site: www.travel.state.gov has lots of valuable information that can benefit you during travel, especially if you are planning to travel abroad? The Mason Safety Office recommends checking the web site. Some of the travel tips from the web site are: Make sure you have a signed, valid passport and visas, if required. Also, before you go, fill in the emergency information page of your passport. Read the Consular Information Sheets (and Public Announcements or Travel Warnings, if applicable) for the countries you plan to visit. Make 2 copies of your passport identification page. This will facilitate replacement if your passport is stolen. Leave one copy at home with friends or relatives. Carry the other with you in a separate place from your passport. Leave a copy of your itinerary with family or friends at home so that you can be contacted in case of an emergency. Do not leave your luggage unattended in public areas. Do not accept packages from strangers. | ||
