New Tuition Payment Policy for Fall 2005

On-time Registrations. Registrations are considered on-time prior to the first day of the semester. The payment due date for all on-time registrations is August 29, the first day of the semester. Payment options and plans can be found on http://studentaccounts.gmu.edu. A late payment fee of 10% or $250 (whichever is less) will be added to all balances from on-time registrations after the first day of classes.

Late Registrations. Registrations on or after August 29 are late. A late registration fee of $250 will be charged for all initial registrations occurring on or after the first day of the semester. Late registration fees are nonrefundable. The payment due date for all late registrations from August 29 through September 13 is five business days after registration. Payment options and plans are available on http://studentaccounts.gmu.edu. A late payment fee of 10% or $250 (whichever is less) will be added after the 5th business day. All late registrations after September 13 require pre-payment of the $250 late registration fee, plus all tuition and fees. The Semester Payment Plan option is available until October 14, the due date for the final payment on the plan.

Registrations will not be canceled for nonpayment. Classes will not be cancelled for nonpayment. Students are responsible for dropping by the billing due date all classes, including waitlisted classes, they do not plan to complete. The last day to drop full semester courses with no tuition penalty is September 13. Late registration fees are nonrefundable.

If the registration is late, the late payment fee is charged in addition to the late registration fee. The late payment fee applies to all registrations added and not paid within five business days.

Order and View Textbooks Online

The bookstore's website has been recently updated to include online ordering of textbooks. This is a convenient way for students to buy their books and for faculty to view orders they have already submitted. Students have the option of having books shipped directly to them or held at the bookstore for pickup. The bookstore website is www.gmu.bkstore.com. Any questions or comments should be directed to Jack Smith, the general manager, at 993-3834.

Payroll Deduction for Faculty/Staff Parking Decals

This announcement is to clarify procedures for faculty/staff payroll deduction for parking decal.

1. Payroll deduction using the online order system is not permitted, because eligibility must be verified.

2. Depending on when Payroll processes your payroll deduction form, your decal fee will be prorated through the remaining fiscal year.

3. A new payroll deduction form with your signature is required by Mason's Payroll Office because of the changes in the number of pay periods your decal will be deducted from.

New Fiscal Year May Bring Paycheck Benefits Changes. Review Friday's semi-monthly paycheck carefully. Things may have changed. This first paycheck of the fiscal year will reflect any changes in health insurance premiums as well as changes in optional life insurance rates.

Last Call for Nominations for Three Awards. Friday is the deadline for nominations for the Outstanding Achievement Award, Exceptional Support Award, and the Martha Reiner Customer Service Award. These awards will be presented at the Summer Awards Ceremony scheduled for Monday, August 8.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is granted for achievements that result in significant benefit to the University, school, institute or department, i.e. specific accomplishments that improve processes, save time or money, or improve customer service.

The Exceptional Support Award is designed to recognize those employees who are the worker bees of the University, i.e. those departments rely upon for the smooth running of daily departmental functions and operations.

The Martha Reiner Customer Service Award is presented to individuals who have contributed to the enhancement of quality customer service at George Mason University. The criteria for this award are exceptional initiative in going the extra mile to provide service to internal and external customers with timely and appropriate follow-up, responsiveness to the needs of students, patrons or customers, and demonstrated improvement of customer service and satisfaction.

Commonwealth Commuter Choice. Beginning with August benefits, requests for SmarTrip Card funds must be submitted to HR/Payroll by the 15th of the previous month. To receive benefits for August, your Request for Monthly Benefit form must be received by Human Resources/Payroll by this Friday, July 15. Bistro Closed This Week

The Bistro will be closed during the week of Monday, July 11, to make space for university events and programs, and will re-open for lunch on Monday, July 18. The Johnson Center Food Court will be serving some of the Best of the Bistro as additional menu items during this week. Global Education Summer Institute Lecture Series

The Summer Institute on International Development, Center for Global Education, Lecture Series, is open to the public. On Wednesday July 13 at 10:00 am in Room 256 of Arlington Original Building, Dave Rabadan, Former Foreign Service Officer will speak on Service to the International Community: Challenges and Opportunities.

 

Weight Watchers on Campus

Let the next success story be yours. Meetings are Fridays at noon. The cost is $150 for 12 sessions, payable at the first session. The fee covers all the meetings and materials. There is no additional registration fee. To register, come to the July 15 meeting at 11:30 am in the Johnson Center, Room 311, Conference Room. Weight Watchers on Campus is open to the entire George Mason University community--faculty, staff and students.

eVA Training

eVA, Virginia's electronic purchasing system, has been implemented at George Mason University. Individuals who purchase goods and services for their departments using the American Express Purchase Card or the Limited Purchase Order (LPO) form are encouraged to attend an eVA training session. A state-issued eVA user name and password are required to purchase goods and services through eVA. The eVA request form is available on the Fiscal Services web site may be used to request an eVA user name and password.

eVA training sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, July 13, Thursday, August 4 and Thursday, August 25 from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon in Innovation Hall. Those interested may register at: http://ittraining.gmu.edu.
