| The votes are in, and the August ITU Employee of the Month has been named. Give a great big congratulation to Nicki Trosclair, Evening Circulation Supervisor & Stacks Manager, Mercer Library, Prince William Campus. Although Nicki has a great deal on her plate doing her own position, on several occasions, with a smile on her face and an outstanding attitude, she drove to the Arlington Campus to help them when they were short staffed. Staff at the Arlington Campus had these things to say about Nicki…”Nicki offered our patrons exemplary customer service both at the circulation desk and in her correspondence to faculty"…; “I was impressed by Nicki’s willingness to help even when it meant traveling twice the distance to get to work"….; “The Arlington Campus Library staff is extremely grateful…for her hard work, diligence, teamwork, pleasant and easy to work with demeanor.” When reading these kinds of comments, it is easy to see why Nicki was not only nominated for the ITU Employee of the Month award, but why she received it as well. Mark your calendars and join us in Mason Hall on Friday, August 5 at 11:30 am to show your support and give Nicki Trosclair a big hand of applause. | ||
| Don’t forget safety during grilling season. The Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association suggests the following: General Safety Tips. Never leave a grill unattended once it is lit. Use long-handled barbecue utensils to avoid burns and splatters. Wear clothing that does not have hanging shirt tails, frills or apron strings and use flame retardant mitts. Use baking soda to control a grease fire and have a fire extinguisher handy. A bucket of sand or a garden house should be near if you don’t have a commercial extinguisher. Charcoal/Wood Chunk Grilling Safety Tips. Never add lighter fluid to existing hot or warm coals. Never use gasoline, or kerosene or other highly volatile fluids as a starter; they can explode. Allow coals to burn out completely. Let the ashes cool for at least 48 hours before disposing of them. Gas Grilling Safety Tips. Never store a LP cylinder inside. Check for gas leaks every time you disconnect and reconnect the regulator to the LP cylinder. Visually inspect hose(s) for abrasion, wear and leaks before each use. A soap and water solution may be used to test for leaks. Never use a flame to check for gas leaks. Never attach or disconnect a LP cylinder, or move or alter gas fittings when the grill is in operation or is hot. When lighting a gas grill, always keep the lid open to prevent a flash off from gas build-up. | ||
